The Reel Fishing PROJECT BOAT Is HERE!

It has been over a year now since we first mentioned this as something we would like to do on the site.  Now, the time is right, and out of the blue we got the boat to start on.  In the coming months, we will be fixing a few things that are wrong with it, and then modifying and adding features to make it a better boat from suggestions you have sent in!

This boat is a 1987 MirroCraft 16.5’, with a 1989 Johnson 28hp SPL motor.

The front deck is rotted because the guy who owned it fished this on Lake Erie.  He only lived a few minutes away from the launch ramp, so it was a very short drive back to the garage after a day on the lake.

Fishing on Erie, the front was bound to have waves splash in.  This would not have been a problem if he would have done a few things differently.  He would pull the boat out of Erie, lock it all down, put the cover on it, and tow it to his garage, where it was kept from the time he bought it new.  However, only living a few minutes away, it never had time to dry out.

So an important lesson to learn here is...let the boat sit out in the sun and open the door(s) cut in the deck to circulate air.  This will extend the life of any wooden deck in any boat.  After it has had time to dry, you can then put the cover back on and/or park it in the garage.

Another thing wrong is the shifter cable is locked up and disconnected from the motor.  This may be just an easy replace job, or we may look into it see if we can fix it first.  Never know until you try!

We will be adding a couple depth/fish finders, some accessories, rod holders, new hatch cover, some inside lighting, just to name a few things.

So keep checking in on us and see the progress of the “Reel Fishing Project Boat”!

Hope to see you out there!!!!!
