OKUMA

Coronado CD65 (Bait Feeder System)

Well as you may have read on the site, I had a major crash on my computer…lost my hard drive and also EVERYTHING I had stored on it.  Not to mention all the reviews and photos are gone…but I did learn one important thing, from now on I WILL keep everything backed up on a floppy or CD.  I will not let this happen again.  (webmaster's note:  I have many of the reviews and photos used on the site backed up on my computer…but it is a good idea to keep copies of any important files in one's own possession.)

So the first review and photos are gone, but I will post this:

Okuma Coronado 65:

4 Ball Bearings

4:5:1 gear ratio

12/320 – 15/275 – 20/205

EFR II  (even flow roller)

RES II (rotor equalizing rotor)

Quick set anti-reverse

This is yet another great reel in the long line that is Okuma…I had the pleasure of using this CD65 reel with their 10' Solaris surfcasting rod for some heavy dam fishing on the Ohio River in some VERY rough water!

Now, as expected from Okuma, this did not give me any problems during the entire three months I used it.  I have it loaded with 20-lb Trilene XT line, and the biggest fish I brought in weighed in at 48lbs.  It was not even a challenge for this set-up.

There is a difference in the “feel” of this reel, as opposed to the others I have reviewed from Okuma.  You can notice the difference in going from 10 down to 4 ball bearings.  But I feel they made up for that with the oversized steel and brass handle which is supplied with this CD65.  It will give you that little extra power you need for fighting the big ones!  The only change I would have liked is the ability to have 2 speed retrieves.

Even though my contact at Okuma was a little concerned about this combo of reel and Solaris rod for what I planned on using it for, I have to say with complete honesty that I was able to cast this out there for what seemed to be a mile!  And while the reel was up a little farther than I am used to, about 24 inches, but it did provide more than ample distance for hand placement to be just about anywhere you feel right with.  We all have our comfort zone…

The Solaris rod model # SS-S-1002MH-1 is rated for line from 20 to 40 pounds, and for lure weight from 3 to 8 ounces.  And, I have to say, in spite of all the rain we experienced in Ohio this year, I had no problems either casting or fighting the fish, even with all the logs and other things floating in the river.  It was up and muddy most of the year so fishing was harder all across the board.

Again, let me apologize for this review.  The original review and photos were lost, along with everything else.  I will back up the system from this point on!  I would also like to say, to Mark at Okuma, thank you for letting me test and review your products, and I hope we here at Reel Fishing have built a long and lasting friendship.

Thank you…

gunner
