Dip Baits…?

I tried dip bait for the first time a while back. I went and bought three or four different
types of hook rig set-ups for this bait.
One looked like swiss cheese wrapped around a hook, and another was a
sponge-type over a big treble hook. I
set it all up, dipped and filled, and cast out…and waited…and waited… My fishing partner, Dave, cast out a big
ol' nightcrawler and within 10 minutes he was bringing in a nice little
channel cat. But I still waited a
little bit, then brought it in and re-dipped and cast back out…waiting…waiting…and
Dave brings in another little channel cat.

I was still willing to wait and give this bait I had heard so
much about a chance. After he got
three fish and I had none, I threw a nightcrawler out and started to catch nice
little healthy channels…so went my first experience with dip baits. |

Now, I will admit, there are many more brands that I need to
try, and I will. But…I also have been
told that many of you out there have your own private homemade dip bait that
you swear by. If you would like to
share it with us, please send it to me here or the webmaster. I will make some and give it a try, then
report back to the site how it worked.
I have also heard that dip baits catch channels 95% of the time…is
that a true statement?

We were not fishing this “trial” night for big flatheads…but both
of us had heard of the dip bait and channel cat relationship, and we wanted
to try this bait out and have some fun with the smaller fish. Of course, there is a completely different
set-up for flatheads, from the reels and poles to the bait. |

If anyone wants to share their own dip bait recipe, please send
it in and I will make sure it gets posted! |

Catch and release please….. |
