Calculating Fish Weight
“Please Practice Catch and Release”
Have
you ever wondered how much the biggest fish you caught weighed? If you don’t have a scale or you forgot it
at home, don’t worry...using this simple equation, you can get pretty close to
what the fish would weigh. This will not be the exact weight, but it will
be close enough to give you information for the stories to be told in years to
come!
The Formula:
(Girth x Girth) x Length) ÷ 800 = weight in
pounds
(girth and length are in inches)
Example:
If the girth is 15 inches and
the length is 29 inches, the formula would be:
15 x 15 = 225
225 x 29 = 6525
6525 ÷ 800 = 8.16 pounds
Then
the ".16" or "16/100" is converted to ounces (multiply by
16)
.16 x 16 = 2.56 or 3 ounces
So
this fish is 8 pounds 3 ounces!
Hope
this helps!!!
